CHELMSFORD City's preparations for a 2009/10 promotion push from the Blue Square South will see manager Jeff King assume a revised role with the club on the Board as director of football.

The new set-up, which will see former Ipswich Town midfielder and current head coach Glenn Pennyfather resume his position and take responsibility for team selection and day-to-day player management, has been welcomed by chairman Mansell Wallace, who explained: “This is all part of continuing to build the club for the long-term future and we are looking to gain promotion to the Blue Square Premier next season and believe this new set-up will further help.”

King and Pennyfather joined the club from Canvey Island in the summer of 2006 and have secured top-five finishes in each of their three seasons in the dugout, including the Ryman League Premier Division title in 2008.

Now Mansell claims to be as excited about the club's prospects as ever, adding: “The changes are with immediate effect and we're glad to have Jeff join us on the Board. The manager's position will not be filled but Glenn will be in charge of team affairs and Jeff will still be on hand to help him.”

Pennyfather himself is also looking forward to the new campaign having returned from a recent family holiday. He explained: “I'm back, refreshed and raring to go!”
