Peterborough have snapped up rising British talents Joe Jacobs and Oliver Greenwood to fill their reserve berths for next season.

20-year-old Jacobs joins the Panthers with a full season of Premier League experience behind him for Glasgow in 2013, whilst Greenwood (18) will be making his debut at this level but did make guest appearances last year and, in fact, appeared in the second leg of the play-off Final for champions Somerset.

Jacobs, who achieved an average of three-and-a-half in a struggling Tigers side, is set to be one of the busiest young riders in the sport as he has secured an Elite League place with Wolverhampton following the recent reserve draft, and he will race at No.1 for National League club Mildenhall after being with Coventry last term.

Greenwood, who became a Coventry asset earlier this winter, will again line up for his parent club in the third tier and comes in on a 3.00 average for the Panthers.

Co-promoter Trevor Swales said: “We’re very pleased to be giving two young British riders a chance. I know Joe well from seeing him at Mildenhall and I think spending last winter in Australia did him the world of good.

“His scores in the Premier League were praiseworthy for his first season, and although obviously he still has learning to do I would expect him to improve meeting by meeting.

“Oliver is well known by Mick (Horton) from being with Coventry, and I know he’s regarded as a thinking rider. This is his first chance for a full team place in the Premier League and he’s determined to take it.

“Our supporters can be sure they’re going to get bags of effort from these two, and we know that once they’ve adapted to the Showground they should be capable of taking points off several teams.”

Jacobs and Greenwood join Ryan Fisher, Lasse Bjerre, Ulrich Ostergaard and Lewis Blackbird in the Panthers’ 2014 line-up, with one place to be filled.
