It’s been a better than expected start to the season for Ipswich Town - but who’s been your pick of the Blues’ players so far?
The Blues sit eighth in the Championship table after their first ten games, and have a match in hand on every side above them. They are also the league’s second highest scorers, netting 20 times thus far, behind only Hull City’s 22 - and they’ve played 11 games.
But who’s stood out individually? Well, you could argue that five players could each lay claim to being Town’s best performer so far...
JOE GARNER
The summer signing from Preston is already a firm fan favourite. Feisty, fighty and full of running, he refuses to give defenders a rest and is never happier than when embroiled in a bit of confrontation.
He’s netted four goals and got three yellow cards in his ten appearances so far. Has made fans start to forget about the hole left when Daryl Murphy departed for Newcastle.
MARTYN WAGHORN
‘Waggy’ has been a revelation. Skilful, tricky and with a creative ability that Town have lacked, the 27-year-old will have Championship defences losing sleep the night before they face him.
Like Garner, he’s also got a bit of an edge, which makes them a formidable – if undersized – duo. Has scored six goals already, and was at his best in that 5-2 tonking of his former team Sunderland, where he racked up a goal and three assists.
DAVID MCGOLDRICK
Didzy is back, and Ipswich are better for it. After an injury-plagued few seasons, the mercurial McGoldrick is once again operating in that rarified air which few in the Championship can reach.
Already has six goals and three assists to his name - don’t bet against him reaching that fabled 20 goal mark this season, if he can stay fit.
BARTOSZ BIALKOWSKI
You could make a compelling argument that the big Pole in goal is the best keeper in the division. Made a mistake against Leeds, of course, but has otherwise been stellar.
Made a crucial fingertip stop while all was still to play for against Sunderland, kept Town in it in their comeback win at Barnsley and has generally been outstanding.
COLE SKUSE
Raised his game after being criticised last season in what was a bad one all round for the Blues, and is now at the heart of many good moves for Mick McCarthy’s men.
Shields the back four with aplomb, ended his long goal drought in the win over Bolton and has generally been more of an attacking force thus far.
