Testing various lifesaving skills, the club members had the chance to show off their talents in their quest for club glory.

With handicap points depending upon lifesaving awards achieved, this ensured a fair and even playing field for the rookies to take on their more experienced club mates.

Facing stiff competition, it was one of the club’s youngest members, 10-year-old Polly Price whom, with partner Katie Pugh, claimed overall victory.

On route to this victory the girls also won the aquatic incident event. A shell-shocked Polly couldn’t believe that she and Katie had won in her first ever lifesaving competition, just a few months after joining the club.

James Hyde produced the fastest rope throw rescue, with Callum Peacock just taking gold ahead of Kristofer Cvetvous in the body board sprint.

The fastest combined swim and tow rescue pairing were Jodh Sahota and James Hyde.

This gave Jodh and James overall runner up, with Chloe Mendrys and Adam Rust taking third place.

“It was great working with Polly, and doing what I could to keep her nerves at bay” said Katie, while Polly could just manage to say: “It was fun and I didn’t expect to beat Isaac & Elsie (her elder siblings).”

Third place Chloe was also delighted at defeating older brother Ben and collecting a bronze award.
