WNBL Division Two North Ipswich 92 Mansfield Giants 40 The Ipswich Basketball Club Senior Women extended their unbeaten start to the season to five games, as they dispatched Mansfield Giants 92-40 on Saturday, writes William Russell.
In front of another large crowd at Copleston, the Ipswich team again demonstrated some fantastic team basketball, with several players scoring in double figures, while holding their opponents to just a meagre 40 points in the contest.
Ipswich won the first period 21-11, and the second 25-7 as head coach Nick Drane rotated his bench, giving all 11 players time on the court to impress.
The Suffolk side didn’t let up in the second half, winning the final two periods 46-22.
Captain Amy Linton had the hot hand, connecting on five three pointers on her way to 15 points, while leading scorer Harriet Welham was again amongst the points, collecting 25.
Great Britain international Maya Price was the top scorer with 27 points to go with 13 rebounds and six blocks. Elsewhere, Ashleigh Pink added nine assists and eight rebounds to compliment her four points.
Ipswich are now a perfect 3-0 and top of WNBL Division Two North, with their two cup wins against Northamptonshire Titans and Loughborough Riders making them 5-0 in all competitions.
This week they turn their attention back to the National Cup, where they face highly-rated Reading Rockets away in the quarter-final on Sunday.
After their strong start, Ipswich will feel full of confidence heading into the game in the knowledge that they have nothing to lose.
Their next home game is on Saturday November 25, when they host Northamptonshire Titans in the league at 3pm at Copleston Sports Centre.
