TWO GOALS in the opening 15 minutes gave AFC Sudbury a 2-1 victory at near neighbours Hadleigh in Saturday’s hastily-arranged pre-season friendly.

AFC Sudbury may have stepped in at short notice following the withdrawal of Soham Town Rangers on Thursday evening, but they were quick out of the blocks thanks to two goals in the space of five minutes.

Sam Clarke curled a beauty beyond Arron Benstead from the left-hand edge of the penalty area after 10 minutes before poor marking in the home defence allowed Lee Townrow time and space to fire home the second.

Dave Walton was forced to save low down to his left by Hadleigh’s Craig Payne either side of Townrow’s goal, and the home team pulled one back after 35 minutes when Ben Deacon slotted home at the end of a good build-up.

Clear-cut chances were at a premium after the interval, with neither side able to score.
