Reuser insists Town players are united

DUTCH maestro Martijn Reuser has insisted the Town squad are as close as ever and are doubly determined to ease the club's financial woes by winning promotion, writes Derek Davis.

But a resolute Reuser reminded supporters that the Blues will not be allowed to have it all their own way in the run in.

Ipswich's problems off the field are well known and further talks will be held next week to discuss the players taking a pay deferral.

Reuser confirmed: “Our representative, a man from the PFA and the club are holding talks so we will see what comes from that.”

But he refuses to allow the negotiations to distract from the main task in hand - going up.

He said: “Our effort and commitment is not affected by what is going on with the administration.

“Of course, it is always in the back of your mind but when we are on the pitch you don't think about it.

“If anything our spirit and commitment is even stronger. We want to do well for the football club and we know if we win promotion then the situation will be totally positive again.

“At the same time you have to be realistic. It is not just Ipswich Town who have problems, there are clubs everywhere and they all want to deal with it the same.

“There are probably about 10 teams fighting for a promotion place and there are only three available, maybe even just one for the rest of us. We are not the only team going for it there are probably 10 just looking to get in the play-offs.”

The one-time Holland international is looking to play a bigger part in the last third of the season after an injury disrupted opening two-thirds.

Reuser came on as an 82nd minute substitute for the struggling Chris Makin as Ipswich tried to get back on level terms on Wednesday, but instead Wolves scored their fourth goal.

“I was only on for about 10 minutes but I felt sharp, I only wish I could have had longer to show it.

“I want to prove something again. I also have a desire to be important again for Ipswich.

“There are 15 games to go and I want to play as big a part as I can. The ideal thing would be for me to be in the starting line-up but at least I'm on the bench now and if I can come on for 20 or even 30 minutes then I may be able to do something positive for the team.”

Reuser is keen to see Grimsby take a double backlash from a vengeful Town side.

He said: “It was a big blow to lose against Wolves as we could have been in a play-off spot and we know that.

“The manager told us we have a good squad, but really good squads prove it by bouncing straight back from a defeat.

“We also want to show the supporters it was a one-off and we can bounce back.

“We lost the ball too easily, we didn't pass well and didn't hold it so that meant we put enormous pressure on ourselves.

“It was not really down to Wolves' good play it was down to our bad play and we must not let that happen again.

“There is also the point that we lost 3-0 at Grimsby and we want to put that right.

“We are not too concerned at what Grimsby have, if we are on top of our game we will be too good for them so we must concentrate on our strengths.”

Reuser will make his 80th appearance for Town today if he gets on and will be looking to notch his first goal of the season and 14th for the club.
