Romford III 1 Ipswich V 3

This was Ipswich 5s Captain, Andy Mays, second win in two games for the newly launched mens fifth team. A combination of experienced old heads at the back with raw youth & energy supplying the midfield & attack was all too much for Romfords' third team. A shaky start was to be expected as several young heads stepped up to take the stage in perhaps their first senior games. The hard work that is undertaken during the training sessions soon began to pay off with some great short passing & movement which lead to Ben Renshaw scoring from close range after sustained Ipswich dominance. Romford were relying on the break to counter attack & almost scored but Andy Mays brilliantly cleared off the line for Ipswich to go into the break with the lead.

Romford started the second half by pushing more men up against a resilient Ipswich defence. The void in the midfield was almost immediately exposed & Ipswich broke with speed & precision for Alan Barker to score. Romford pulled one back after some good saves by the Ipswich keeper but was unable to stop a penalty corner being drilled home. Ipswich finally put the game beyond reach when Andy Mays capped a fine display by squeezing the ball between post & keeper.
