His round of 74 (net 68) secured the win on count back from 16-handicap Nigel Jarvis.

Dominic now holds a handicap of five secured without ever submitting a supplementary card. For such a young player to be a category one golfer is a tremendous achievement.

Dominic often accompanies his eight-handicap father Peter on a course assessment tour. He has now played 65 of the current top 100 courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

He beat his father by 13 shots in the Frigate. Dominic has been in consistent form. This month he won the Suffolk Schools Under 16 event at Diss with a round of 74 (68 net).

Thorpeness, with excellent greens, provided a tough test.

Luke Thompson of Rookery Park had the best gross score of 72. Dominic and Sam Byford of Ipswich had 74.

The Thorpeness Frigate tournament is now a Suffolk Golf Union order of merit event for the Woodward Markwell Race to Aldeburgh.

Harry Hodgson, who won the Eastern Counties Cup at Woodbridge, had a round of 84.
