ELEVEN sailors have been named as the first athletes to compete for Great Britain at next year’s Olympics in London.

The group includes six former Olympic medallists, one Olympian and four people making thier debuts in the Games.

The sailing team so far includes Ben Ainslie, who has three golds, two-time champion Iain Percy who is aiming to retain his Star title with Andrew Simpson and defending Laser Olympic gold medallist Paul Goodison.

Kate and Lucy Macgregor will compete with Annie Lush in the women’s match racing class in 2012 and are the first sisters in British sailing history to be picked for Team GB.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) will to send up to 550 athletes to London 2012 and field competitors for each of the 26 sports and Keri-Anne Payne became the first Brit to qualify for Games when she won the 10km open-water swim at the World Aquatics Championships in July.
