Colchester United keeper, Sam Walker, is on the verge of signing a new contract at the League One club, although leading scorer Freddie Sears is no nearer to signing a new deal. Both players’ contracts expire next summer.
U’s manager Tony Humes revealed, during yesterday’s press conference: “There’s nothing more on Freddie (Sears), but Sam (Walker) is very close.
“The contract has now been drawn up, and I think Sam is about to sign it. That’s one good positive to take. I don’t think there are any problems there,” added Humes.
Former Chelsea trainee Walker has rattled up 84 league appearances for the U’s, during two earlier loan spells and also since he signed permanently last January.
The U’s are in FA Cup second round action this Sunday, when they entertain Peterborough United at home (4.30pm kick-off).
