Shortly before the half hour, the deadlock was broken when an impressive effort from outside the box by Isaac Bloodworth gave the visitors a deserved lead.

Ben Baxter extended the visitors’ lead on 68 minutes following a spell where Downham began to dominate possession. A number of decent saves from keeper Joe Potter, a recent addition to the squad from neighbours Whitton United, kept the visitors at bay, but Matt Bussens did manage to add a third as the final whistle approached.

Felixstowe coach Aren Howell said: “We need to trust each other with the ball and be more patient,” while captain Shane Forbes added, ‘We’re on a learning curve and we accept we missed chances.”
