Mildenhall Fen Tigers shot up to fourth place in the National League table with two victories in a bumper double header at West Row yesterday.

The young Tigers team were too strong for both Kent and the Isle of Wight, with the second meeting having to be abandoned after a crash involving the home team’s Sam Bebee, who suffered a broken arm and Josh Bailey, who suffered concussion.

With the paramedics in attendance to the riders, it was decided to end the second meeting with 10 heats finished. The result stood.

Promoter Kevin Jolly admitted: “Although we took all six points our thoughts are with Sam, he really deserves a change in fortunes. Josh took a nasty knock and will miss next Saturday’s meeting with concussion but should be fine after that.”

However, Mildenhall were victorious in both clashes as they picked up six points.

Not that it started well against Kent.

Indeed, the visitors started with a 5-1 of their own in heat one and were still four points up after heat three, Jack Thomas and Luke Bowen both winning races.

But slowly the Fen Tigers got their act together on a hot day at West Row.

Bailey produced a fine pass on Nathan Stoneman in heat six and when hot-shot teenager Drew Kemp, who was unbeaten in both meetings from seven rides, and Danny Ayres gained a maximum in the next heat, the home side never looked back.

Dan Halsey, Bailey and Kemp won the next three heats as Mildenhall closed in, and although Bowen won two of the last three races, Mildenhall were easily home.

The second meeting of the afternoon was far easier for the Fen Tigers.

Again an opponent, Georgie Wood this time, won the opening heat for the visitors, but Kemp and Matt Marson put the home side ahead, before Halsey and Ryan Kinsley slammed in a maximum in heat three.

A succession of maximum scores followed as Mildenhall turned the screw and they were 32-10 ahead after just seven races, before the heat 10 crash that abandoned the meeting.
