Slazenger EHL Indoor Premier League

AFTER a tough weekend playing the top three sides in the English National Indoor Premier League, Ipswich missed out on a place on finals day for the first time in four years.

Despite only registering one win out of their four games, Ipswich are able to take so many positives away from this indoor campaign. Firstly they are delighted to announce that indoor coach James Kingstone will continue with his great work with the squad outdoors. James plays his hockey for Old Georgians in Slazenger West Conference and has a large amount of top level playing experience to compliment his coaching.

The other pleasing sight of the weekend was the outstanding performance of 16-year-old Jennifer Mashford in the Ipswich goal. The England Under 18 goalkeeper plays her outdoor hockey for Teddington but under Indoor hockey rules is allowed to play for another club indoors.

Having never played at this level indoors before and with a whole new set of team mates Mashford had every reason to be nervous, but she displayed no sign of nerves, as she made countless top class saves from England and GB's best indoor players. The performance would surely not have gone unnoticed either by the watching England Senior and GB coach Danny Kerry and Mashford's current Under 18 coach Sue Chandler.

Ipswich's attentions now turn to the outdoor season. The side and new coach Kingstone have two weeks to prepare for their home game against Clifton on Saturday, January 31 at 2pm.
