AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley has heaped praise upon his young side after their terrific 3-2 victory over Bognor Regis in the FA Cup second qualifying round last night.

The Yellows came back from 2-1 down to beat the unbeaten Step 3 Bostik Premier side in a thriller at King’s Marsh Stadium after drawing with ‘The Rocks’ on Saturday in West Sussex.

“I’m so proud of my team, it’s unbelievable,” Morsley said.

“And don’t’ forget Bognor are a bloody good team. But we deserve it, make no bones about it.

“Many fans came up to me and said it was the best AFC performance they have witnessed for many years, if not ever!

“We had 10 current and former Academy players on that pitch and at the end we had three second-year scholars out there.

“But what impressed me most was the way we stuck together.

“We were one-up, then 2-1 down and they were bossing it at that time. But Joe Whight has gone and got us a corker two minutes from time and that is always a kick in the teeth when that happens against you. Mekhi McKenzie has got us a great winner.

“Yes, Paul Walker has made some superb saves to keep us in it at times, but when we scored in extra-time, Bognor didn’t look likely to get another.

“On Saturday at their place we were dreadful first half. But we stuck at it and you saw something happening as the game went on.”

Haringey Borough away, is Bostik North (Step 4) Sudbury’s reward for their victory, that to take place on October 6, as well as the small matter of £9,000 for the victory last night.

MEANWHILE, Jody Brown has left Heybridge, following last night’s defeat at Basildon United.

Brown had handed in his resignation after Saturday’s FA Cup match at Horsham, and that, despite their best efforts to change his decision, the manager who masterminded FA Cup and FA Trophy runs last season that captured the imagination of the country departed after last night’s defeat.
