The former England international is a free agent after his Portsmouth contract expired but is looking to settle in the North East following his engagement to Fiona Barrett, granddaughter of a wealthy Tyneside property tycoon.
Campbell, who has bought a new home in rural Northumberland, watched managerless Newcastle
beat Reading 3-0 on Saturday and admits he is keen to finish his career at St James's Park.
He said: “I would love to sign for Newcastle if it's possible but we'll have to wait and see.''
