It has been another great year for the Britannia Table Tennis Club Sparrowhawks who managed to improve upon last year’s success in various events throughout the season.
The Ipswich team achieved success in the Suffolk County Schools Junior Championships, Ipswich and District Championships and the Britannia Championships, raking in more awards than 2012.
The Sparrowhawks entered, for the first time, a team in The English Table Tennis Association Eastern Regions National Cadet League.
That saw them play over a five-week period in Norwich, against very tough opposition and they finished a very creditable fourth in their division.
Next season it is possible that some of these events will take place at the Britannia Table Tennis Club, in Ipswich.
Some of the juniors are also working towards on becoming qualified umpires – so far 10 of them have successfully passed their ETTA junior umpire award.
The Sparrowhawks play every Saturday morning at the Dome in Defoe Road throughout the year from 10am till noon.
Such is the success of these sessions that at present the club is unable to accept new members and have a waiting list.
