This week’s spotlight on Parkruns, in Suffolk and Essex, falls on the Bury St Edmunds Parkrun:
It is always encouraging when junior runners are at the head of a field, in any event, and they certainly dominated the latest Bury St Edmunds Parkrun, held on the usual course at Nowton Park on Saturday.
A good field of 261 completed the 227th staging of this popular event, overnight rain having left the parkland course damp, and muddy in places.
Tom Henson, of the local club Saint Edmund Pacers, was the first to reach the finish-funnel, at the end of a two-lap 5K challenge, in 18mins 16secs.
A member of the 11-14 year-old age group, this was a personal best for young Tom in what remarkably was already his 70th Parkrun, and 66th at Bury.
Similarly, twin sisters Millie and Maddie Jordan-Lee were away and clear in the female section. Millie was third overall in 19:16, one second ahead of her sister Maddie. This Stowmarket Striders duo, between them, have finished first female at six of the last 10 Bury St Edmunds Parkruns,
