St Ives 2 Ipswich II 0

DESPITE severe rain calling off several home matches, Ipswich were assured it was sunny in St Ives. A much changed Ipswich squad had a sharper start than St Ives, attacking early on, but this was short lived. The rain then came across from the east and it proceeded to pour for the rest of the match! St Ives were disappointed when a shot that hit defender Fran Tew on the forehead did not win them a flick. Despite Ipswich working hard to create opportunities and winning a couple of penalty corners, possession was evenly distributed between the two teams for the remainder or the first half.

Ipswich continued to put in a good team effort in the second half, with some moments of precocious hockey, they were unable to generate goal-scoring opportunities in attack. St Ives on the other hand kept the Ipswich defence on their toes, in particular keeper Jade Daly who made several great saves, but St Ives continued to press until they scored, and then quickly scored a second. Ipswich currently sit in sixth place in East Division One North with 15 points and face Wisbech at home next Saturday.
