Felixstowe & Walton kick off the weekend round of Thurlow Nunn Premier fixtures with a Friday night trip to the Hawthorns, home of fifth-placed Stanway Rovers
The home side were in the running for the title for the first half of the season, but a change of management at the end of December saw them slip up against sides they would have expected beat, as the new regime settled in.
They still present formidable opposition, despite some mixed results recently, and they go into this game having beaten the Seasiders twice this season, once in the league and knocking them out of the League Cup at the Hawthorns in early December.
Kevin O’Donnell knows the Seasiders are now second favourites for the title, following Mildenhall’s midweek win over Gorleston, but will feel confident about chasing the leaders down if his side continues to produce the kind of form they have shown over the last two months. Pivotal central defender Dan Davis is available after serving a two match suspension on the FA’s totting up system, and the Seasiders’ boss should have virtually a full squad available for this game, with only Miles Powell currently side-lined through injury.
With the better goal difference and two games in hand on the leaders who have a six point advantage at the top, this match is the first of three huge games in 12 days for O’Donnell’s side which, if they get through them unscathed, could put them in the driving seat going into the final month of the season.
