Stowmarket Town Reserves manager Terry Hovell is quietly confident he can bring another piece of silverware back to the club this week, writes Alex Moss.

Stow take on Saffron Walden Town Reserves in the final of this season’s Chell Trophy, which is being played at Halstead Town tomorrow night (7.45pm).

Hovell’s men are bidding to win a second trophy in less than 12 months, having captured the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup last May.

And the Stow Reserves boss believes his side are well equipped to take home the Chell Trophy crown for what would be the first time in the club’s history.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Hovell said. “I’m expecting a hard game, but we’ve got a full squad of 16 so I’m happy.

“The club has never won this cup before, so to get one more victory and win it and make it two cups in two years would be a big feat.

“It was a great effort to win the Suffolk cup last year and this is more like our version of the League Cup.

“It’s not as important in terms of prestige like the other one, but it’s still important and it would be fantastic to win both cups.

“People say they’re glad to get to the final, but I’m the sort of person who wants to get there and win it.

“I’d rather get knocked out in the first round if we’re not going to win it. If we play football like I know we can, I’m quietly confident we can put up a good performance and win.”

Hovell will be boosted by the return of James Storey for tomorrow’s final, but Ben Licence is unavailable.

Stow Reserves were due to play Whitton United Reserves in the semi-finals of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup this past weekend, but the tie at Bramford United was postponed due to the bad weather.

The two sides will now face off for a place in the final on March 31 (2.30pm), with Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves and Haverhill Rovers Reserves due to contest the other semi-final.
