Strauss closing in on century in India

ENGLAND opener Andrew Strauss was just seven runs shy of a century on the opening day of the First Test against India in Chennai today.Middlesex batsman Strauss was 93 not out as England moved to 164 for one from 57 overs after winning the toss and batting first.

Middlesex batsman Strauss was 93 not out as England moved to 164 for one from 57 overs after winning the toss and batting first.

Strauss shared an opening stand of 118 with Alastair Cook before the Essex batsman fell for 52.

Ian Bell joined Strauss at the crease and was undefeated on 17.
