AFC Sudbury will continue their own small dream on Saturday when FA Cup action returns to The MEL Group Stadium with the visit of higher league Royston Town, writes Darren Theobald.

Nicknamed ‘The Crows’, Royston play in the Evo-Stik league south premier division central where they currently sit 11th, they have played six, with two wins, two draws and two losses.

Last weekend they were away at Barwell where they came from behind and grabbed all three points in a match that needed a last minute winner.

The attraction of the FA Cup means so much to non-league teams, even more so this season, with the prize money increased, almost doubled in size in fact, meaning that even at this first qualifying round stage the winner will pocket £6,000.

AFC Sudbury have a fully-fit squad at their disposal with only the departure of Milo Grimes to Brighlingsea Regent missing.

AFC Sudbury manager Mark Morsley said ahead of the match on Saturday: “It is FA Cup time again and on Saturday we have a stiff test against Step 3 team Royston Town.

“With a substantial increase in prize money in this season’s competition I think we were all hoping for a game that was considered a tad easier, at least we are at home.

“That will allow the Sudbury fans to come out in numbers and give the lads plenty of vocal support.”

The scouting report on ‘The Crows’ in their last league game victory away to Barwell made interesting reading.

The excellent Will Appleyard in goal on loan from Stevenage was one to catch the eye and his long kicks will need to be watched.

Another player who is well known is the impressive Chris Assombalonga who used to play at Waltham Abbey – well-travelled and one to watch.

After Sudbury’s ‘blip’ last week against Bowers & Pitsea Morsley’s side will be looking to get performance levels back on track.

As a group the team were really disappointed with not only the result but the way they lacked any real cut and thrust to theri play.

It’s a match that boths sets of players will be looking forward to.

If the match is drawn on Saturday then a replay will be required on Tuesday evening at Royston Town.
