Suffolk beat Cambridgeshire by 106 runs after bowling out their hosts for 163 in the second innings by mid-afternoon, at Saffron Walden today.

But whether they lift the Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division title remains up in the air, depending on whether Lincolnshire can win at Cumberland later today.

Jack Beaumont was the chief wicket-taker for Suffolk, the experienced spinner taking four for 21 off 13 overs, including the crucial wicket of Ed Ballard.

Suffolk progressed their second innings from 212 for eight to a very handy 290 all out, to set Cambs a target of 270 for victory.

Tom Rash, 14 not out overnight, made a patient 46 (off 105 balls), adding 84 for the ninth wicket with Josh Cantrell, who advanced to 37 not out before No. 11 Ollie Bocking was dismissed for 11.

And Suffolk then enjoyed the perfect start to Cambs’ reply, with the new ball pair of Michael Comber and Ollie Bocking quickly reducing their hosts to two for two.

Bocking had opener A Laws caught by wicketkeeper Adam Mansfield (0), the first of his three catches, while Comber trapped Callum Guest leg before (0).

An in-form Comber also claimed the wicket of Matt Gouldstone lbw, to leave the total on 32 for three, before Ballard and Nikhil Gorantia shared the biggest stand of the innings (66 for the third wicket.

Ballard had made 75 when he was caught by Jed Cawkwell off Beaumont, and Gorantia quickly followed, caught by Mansfield off Comber for 20.

From a struggling 98 for five, Cambs were always facing defeat, and Beaumont ensured there would be no way back for them.
