A drop in temperature came as a welcome break to the players and supporters at the Framlingham Tennis Tournament today, writes Jeremy Scowsill.

After two days of searingly hot weather, the men’s Suffolk closed semi-finals were completed in more typical British summer conditions with Matt Hough beating Harper Mills and Ryan Lambert beating Asa Sumner-Keens to set up a repeat of the 2017 final.

The semi-finals for the ladies took place on Tuesday and Maddie Mcloughlin will face ten times winner Katie Tassell. The final of both events takes place tomorrow with the first of these, the ladies final, set to commence at 1pm.

The open events have now started in earnest and in the men’s event the first seed Daniel Dean progressed to the quarter finals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Adam Roberts.

The second seed Benjamin Stanford also progressed with a walkover against Paul Hope.

In the open women’s singles, the top seeds of Vianne Palffy and Megan Carmichael are still in place for a possible meeting in the final on Saturday.

In the under 16 boys singles, there was a shock for the number 1 seed, Scott Whiting losing to Rohan Iyengar in a hard fought match.

This opens up the opportunity for Luke Watson, the number 2 seed, to take the title.

The under 10 girls event was won by Georgiana Mititelu, with Samantha Braydon and Erin Berry finishing second and third respectively.

Georgiana, who is currently an England International, is definitely one to watch for the future.

Visitors and supporters were able to enjoy not only the tennis but also test the speed of their serves, sample a new brand of ice cream and enjoy other games of skill.

The fastest serve by the number 1 Suffolk seed, Matt Hough, was clocked at 121 kph!
