In the first half visiting goalkeeper Danny Fowler (Billericay), made fine saves from Richard Gammon (Newmarket), and Chris Henderson (Kirkley & Pakefield), before Suffolk went ahead on the stroke of half time. Henderson drove in a low cross-shot which went in off a defender.
Three minutes into the second half Henderson scored with another good shot and then Dale Smith (Lowestoft), made it three after a free kick had not been dealt with by the Essex defence after 58 minutes.
Essex broke their duck in the last minute with a penalty converted by Sam Eldridge (Harwich).
