Suffolk race walker, Callum Wilkinson, has guaranteed his selection for this summer’s World Athletics Championships in London, after satisfying the selection requirements today.

Wilkinson, of Moulton near Newmarket, had already achieved the qualifying time for the 20K men’s race walk, having ducked under the 84-minute landmark in both of his first two races over the distance.

That meant the 20-year-old former King Edward VI pupil merely had to finish in the top two at the British 20K race walk World Championship Trials, which were incorporated within the British Grand Prix of Race Walking event, at Roundhay Park in Leeds this morning.

And Wilkinson achieved his main goal, by finishing a close second to his GB team-mate Tom Bosworth in the 20K race to rubber-stamp his selection for the World Championships.

The race walking events will be staged at The Mall, in London, on Sunday, August 13.
