Woodbridge Town progressed to the third round of the Suffolk Senior Cup and knocked out last season’s runners up with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Cranes Sports at Notcutts Park.
Goals for Kelsey Trotter, Matt Mackenzie and Mark Ray clinched the win.
The home side opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Mackenzie’s curling cross was headed home by Trotter to make it 1-0. The Woodpeckers increased their lead after 68 minutes when Ray’s accurate pass found Mackenzie and he made no mistake from an acute angle to make it 2-0.
It was 3-0 after 89 minutes when Trotter’s through ball found Keeble and after Bedingfield made another excellent save, Ray was first to the rebound to make it 3-0.
Leiston Reserves won their first ever match in the cup on penalties against Henley Athletic after the game finished 1-1.
Henley took the lead when Clark Bruce finished well after a good move. Leiston levelled in the 81st minute when Armani Schaar fired home from close range, after Holland had punched away from a corner.
After five minutes of stoppages, the game went to penalties and Leiston were the victors, winning 5-4.
Achilles also made progress, beating Anglian Combination side Waveney 6-0 on their turf. Despite missing star striker Liam Hillyard, they were 2-0 up at half-time as Ivan Buxton and Danny Garrad netted.
Waveney rallied at the restart but when Gavin Van Oene drove in off the post 15 minutes into the half, Achilles took charge and ran in three more goals, two for substitute Robert Bucys and one for Lee Grimwood.
Wenhaston went through with a dour 1-0 win over Coplestonians. It was Cops who looked the most likely to break the deadlock in the first half but some good defending and good handling from keeper Alan Anderson denied them.
The game failed to improve in the second period but Lewis Chenery did brighten the mood for the home side when he fired home a fine winner from distance after 57 minutes.
Westerfield United made progress 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Grundisburgh. Daniel Wade gave then the lead after 29 minutes, but Josh Cook forced penalties when he levelled in the 78th minute.
