DESPITE Norfolk side Wroxham winning the Ridgeons League title last season, Suffolk still hold the monopoly in East Anglia's major football league.

The Premier Division for 2007/08 - due to be rubber stamped at today's annual general meeting at Diss Town FC - will have a 50% representation from Suffolk.

Even with Bury Town and AFC Sudbury now having joined the Ryman League Division One North, there will still be 11 Suffolk clubs in the top division of the Ridgeons League.

This compares with five from Norfolk, four from Cambridgeshire and two from Essex.

Suffolk can still boast that they hold the balance of power in the region - with AFC Sudbury winning the Premier Division title from 2001 until 2005 and Lowestoft lifting the trophy in 2006.

In Division One next season there will be six clubs from Suffolk and Norfolk, four from Essex, two from Cambridgeshire and one from Huntingdonshire.

There will be no new clubs in the Ridgeons League for 2007/08.

League secretary Nigel Spurling said: “Braintree Wanderers applied to join, but the Football Association ruled that as a new club they will need to start at Step 7, which is Border League level.

“To my knowledge this is the end of the matter.

“There are no other applications to be discussed at the AGM.”

Clacton Town will become FC Clacton as the company running the previous club has been struck off by Companies House.
