Super Suffolk girls gain promotion after terrific performance at Bromley

The team of Ione Charlton, Isabelle Eaton, Georgia Harris, Macy Hendin-Walker, Maddie Mcloughlin, Tawana Senah, Hannah Stokes and Sophie Taber were captained by Emily Wharton, and assistant captain Lucy Brabben.

Playing against Berkshire on Saturday morning they started well with singles four singles wins for Eaton, Charlton, Stokes, Senah with Hendin-Walker and Harris narrowly losing their matches.

This left the tie with Suffolk leading Berkshire 4-2 after all six singles rubbers.

In the afternoon the girls dominated Cumbria, winning all six singles rubbers placing the team in a strong position going in to Sundays doubles and a great chance to gain promotion.

Sunday morning the girls finished off their tie with Cumbria with a 8-1 win.

In the afternoon Suffolk needed to win one of the three doubles rubbers against Berkshire to gain promotion. The tie finished 6-3 to Suffolk and more importantly the team had gained promotion!

The Under-18 Boys were in division one for the first time in Suffolk’s history.

Spirits were high as they travelled to Bath. Everyone knew it was going to be a very tough weekend, but the boys used Leicester City winning the football Premiership as inspiration for anything can happen.

They started the weekend by playing Hertfordshire and quickly realised how tough the weekend was going to be and ended up losing 7-2.

Day two was West of Scotland, Suffolk knew that this was the one they stood most chance in winning.

A debut win from Asa Sumner Keens and wins from Noah Cutting and Ed Pomeroy ensured Suffolk went into the doubles at 3-3.

The doubles went all the way to the last match tie break.

At 4-4 in matches and one set all, in true Suffolk spirit the boys came through to secure a 5-4 win. This meant they went into day 3 knowing we had to win 9-0 to stay up but were up against the champions to be Surrey.

Surrey went on to win the tie 5-1.
