Teen star Teddy Bishop says Ipswich Town’s travelling army of supporters can once again make a big difference at Charlton on Saturday.
More than 1,400 Blues fans headed to the south coast at the weekend, cheering on their side as they twice came from behind to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw at second-place Bournemouth.
Next up is a trip to The Valley. The early kick-off (12.15pm) is being shown live on Sky, but that has not stopped excited supporters snapping up more than 2,000 away tickets for the relatively short journey to south London.
“The fans were brilliant and they never stopped singing,” said 18-year-old Bishop, who scored his first senior goal at Dean Court, Mick McCarthy’s men moving back up to fourth in the table.
“They filled the away end which makes such a difference when you step out onto the pitch and see so many fans there supporting you.
“It’s a long way to come and they cheer us on whether we are winning or losing. They were quality.”
With ninth-place Charlton unbeaten at home in the league this season, winning four and drawing five, academy graduate Bishop continued: “We can’t afford to rest on our laurels – we just have to keep cracking on.
“We’ve got another tough away game at Chalrton next. The game’s on Sky in the earlier kick-off so we can make our mark early with a good result.
“It was a great feeling to get my first goal. I don’t score many so I wasn’t too sure what to do when I scored – I just stood around waiting for the ball to go in and then I gave it a little fist-pump! Hopefully I can add to my tally now and get a few 90 minutes under my belt.”
