Sean Murray’s late challenge on Jim McAlister, during yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road, has left the former facing a suspension and the latter with a fractured leg.
Midfielder Murray, making his U’s debut as a 65th minute substitute following his move from Swindon on transfer deadline day, caught Blackpool right-wing back McAlister with a mis-timed challenge in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Murray was sent off, and so now faces a three-match suspension, while Blackpool FC confirmed this morning that McAlister had suffered a fractured right tibia.
McAlister was rushed to hospital for scans on the injury last night. He does not need surgery, at least at this stage, and is currently laid-up at home with his right leg in a cast.
Murray immediately sent his apologies to McAlister, after yesterday’s League Two match.
