Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has told four of his loaned out players – Paul Taylor, Frank Nouble, Anthony Wordsworth and Freddie Veseli – that they are all available for transfer when the January window opens.

Striker Taylor, a £1.5m buy by previous boss Paul Jewell, and midfielder Wordsworth, a £100,000 purchase by McCarthy from Essex neighbours Colchester, are both currently struggling to get game time at Championship rivals Rotherham.

Striker Nouble, who cost Town £25,000 from McCarthy’s former club Wolves, has scored four goals in 12 appearances for League One club Coventry.

Former Manchester United and Manchester City youngster Veseli is impressing at League One side Port Vale following an injury set-back.

“I’ve not heard from Coventry, but I let Frank play in the FA Cup for them with the view that they would take him on for longer,” said McCarthy, whose side are second in the Championship table heading into a Boxing Day game at fellow high-fliers Brentford.

“Woody (Wordsworth) and Paul Taylor started off playing alright for Rotherham, he (manager Steve Evans) made changes and now they’re not playing. I don’t know what’s happening with them, but their futures are elsewhere – not here. It’s the same with Freddie Veseli.

“That means they will all be transferred. If they come back they won’t be playing. I can’t make that any plainer can I? They are not going to play here. Even if they come back they’ll be going somewhere else.”

On his other loanee, young striker Jack Marriott having been less prolific during his second spell at Conference club Woking, the Blues boss said: “Jack hasn’t been playing regularly and not had the same degree of success he had there first time around. He needs to play somewhere regularly and get some goals before he even thinks about getting in my team.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy says it is unlikely that Jonny Williams will be returning on loan. The Welsh international’s second temporary spell at the club was cut short when he suffered a thigh injury in the 1-0 home win over Watford on November 8.

“I’ve got to put a call in to Neil (Warnock),” said McCarthy. “I don’t know what they’ll do with him. I would suspect they will use him. They were doing well while he was here, they were getting good results so they didn’t need him.

“I got the feeling they wanted to take a look at him at the end of the loan though and now I see Neil is saying they need a few new faces.

“Who knows what will happen? Listen, he knows there’s a home for him here if they want to loan him out again.”

On Darren Ambrose, whose short-term deal expires at the end of the month, McCarthy said: “I don’t need to speak to him yet. Let’s get the games out the way. He’s done alright Darren. He came on as a sub on Saturday, so he’s contributing. I just haven’t spoken to him yet. I’ll sit down and talk to him when I’ve got these games out the way.”
