Telemark talent Taylor, 24, has just claimed her first-ever victory in a World Cup event at the Suicide Six in Vermont, USA – which she followed up just days later with a second American triumph, this time in Sugarbush.

The historic wins mean that Colchester-born Taylor has now stood on nine of the 11 event podiums this season, and sits third in the World Cup rankings at the halfway stage, having finished fourth last campaign.

She’s also now in second place on Team GB’s all-time list of World Cup podium finishes.

It’s heady territory for Taylor, who started skiing on Ipswich’s dry slope aged ten before taking up serious training as a teenager and switching to telemark aged 17.

Telemark is a downhill discipline where only the toe of the boot is attached to the ski – in many ways the origins of the sport.

“It was epic,” said Taylor of her World Cup wins. “It was so nice to have that finally in the bag. I’ve won a run before, but not enough to take overall victory in an event.”

With that ticked off her list of goals, University of Suffolk student Taylor is now aiming to finish the season strong and better last year’s fourth place in the World Cup standings, starting with events in Germany and Slovenia this weekend and next week.

“It’s my dream to be World Champion and I’d like to think one day I will be,” she said. “But for now I’m just taking things one race at a time and doing the best I can do.

“Going into the season the aim was to win a World Cup event, so to have done that is fantastic – I’ll just keep pushing forward now and see what else I can do.”

Telemark isn’t currently an Olympic sport, so Taylor won’t be heading to South Korea at the end of February – but she’s not ruled out one day competing for a medal on the greatest sporting stage of them all.

“I think the Olympics is more of a dream for me,” she said. “It would be a huge bonus if it were to happen, but if not, it’s not the end of the world.”
