The Suffolk School Games Summer Festivals 2018 took place across a number of venues in the county, under blue skies and amidst scorching temperatures last week.
Around 1,200 youngsters had the opportunity to represent their school in 17 different competitions.
The festivals were the culmination of a year-long battle for school teams from across Suffolk to qualify for the showpiece events.
Westbourne Academy in Ipswich was the first venue last Tuesday, featuring a range of sports. Events included High5 Netball, Mini-Tennis, Panathlon, and Inclusive Cricket and Golf.
Thursday saw the focus shift to Bury St Edmunds and the Bury Leisure Centre. On the track, athletics was the showcase with the finals of the Quadkids and Super 8s competitions.
Other sports included swimming, gymnastics, squash and volleyball.
The School Games Festivals are organised by Suffolk Sport on behalf of the Suffolk PE and Sport Network, but a key feature is the involvement of youngsters in the organisation, officiation and running of the individual sports.
And this year 124 young leaders supported the festivals, developing their leadership and organisational skills.
Organiser of the festivals, Suffolk Sport’s James Payne, said: “This year’s events were again a tremendous success and again demonstrate the passion that exists around school sport in the county.
“Our team of young leaders once again provided us with an excellent workforce to deliver two super days of sporting action in which everybody that played part should be justifiably proud.”
