Melford took the lead on 41 minutes when Scott Sloots played the ball towards the Swaffham far post and Hassan Ally was on the spot to dive in and head the ball home.

Nick Castellan almost levelled for the visitors just before the break, but Melford keeper Darren Moyes dived full length to push the ball round the post.

The second half belonged to Melford, who were playing at an increased tempo, and they looked likely to increase their lead.

Melford duo Steve Adams and Will Wingfield hit the bar and post respectively, before Ashley Skeggs eventually doubled the hosts’ lead from eight yards, on 66 minutes.

Swaffham wouldn’t lie down through and only a great save by Moyes, at the feet of Matt Blackford, kept the score line intact for Melford.

In the First Division, Framlingham closed their home league programme with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Dereham Town Reserves.

The home side squandered numerous early chances with Jake Taylor and Danny Smith having most of the opportunities, before Aldis prodded in on 21 minutes from a Taylor header across goal.

Poacher hit the post from a Charlie Smith cross before Dereham scored with their first attempt on goal - a Green free kick - on the stroke of half time.

Three quick goals at the start of the second half from Taylor and Danny Smith settled the home side.

Smith was then brought down by keeper West, before the same player scored from the spot.

Chris Boardley finished in style with a goal on 82 minutes for the home side’s fifth

Will Davies scored a superb 89th-minute looping header to hand Woodbridge Town a 1-0 win over Braintree Town Reserves, maintaining their fourth-placed position in the First Division.

Davies’ excellent header from 15 yards, over the onrushing Aldridge, settled the game a minute from the end of normal time to seal the three points for the Woodpeckers.

Jamie Scales’ side travel to Kings Lynn tomorrow night and finish their league campaign next Saturday at Halstead Town.
