CHAMPIONS League winners Chelsea have sacked manager Roberto Di Matteo following the Blues’ 3-0 defeat to Juventus, in Turin, last night.

The former Italian international midfielder, who enjoyed a glorious playing career with Chelsea, took over from Andre Villas-Boas in March and revitalised a struggling side, leading them to a 2-1 FA Cup final win against Liverpool.

However, the former West Brom boss has always found himself under intense scrutiny with owner Roman Abramovich making no secret of his desire to lure former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge.

Last night’s defeat, in which Di Matteo left Chelsea’s only striker – Fernando Torres – on the bench, leaves them on the brink of elimination from Group E of the Champions League, with qualification out of their hands.

Di Matteo won 24 and lost just nine of his 42 games in charge of the London club.
