TEAM Bury entertain West Bergholt at Ram Meadow this Saturday in a match that will go a long way to decide the title winners in the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division.

Team Bury are currently top of the league with a three point advantage and three matches to play, but West Bergholt have a game in hand.

Neither team can be caught, so both are guaranteed at least a runners-up spot.

West Bergholt have become perennial bridesmaids, having finished runners up in the last three seasons.

It has been a phenomenal season for Team Bury, with the majority of the team made up of Under 19 players from West Suffolk College's Sports Academy. Team Bury have made no secret of their desire to gain promotion to the Ridgeons League and a top two finish meets the criteria laid down by the FA.

“With our ground share with Bury Town, we have all infrastructures in place to meet the requirements of the Ridgeons League,” said Neil Reader, joint manager of Team Bury. “We have an excellent working relationship with Russell Ward, the Chairman of Bury Town and his fellow directors. Everyone at Bury Town has been incredibly supportive of our quest for promotion.

“The youngsters in the team have performed beyond expectations and, in all honesty, if someone had have offered us third place at the start of the season we would have bitten their hand off! We now find ourselves in a great position with no real pressure on us, as we have achieved our objective.

“However, I know the kids are desperate to win the league now and will be confident on the day.”

A decent crowd is expected for the match on Saturday, at Ram Meadow, with a 3pm kick off.
