IT’S AS you were at the top of Division One in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship after the top five all won at the weekend.

Mildenhall were the only one of the leading pack to even drop a point – and it was literally just that – as Woolpit, Haverhill, Wivenhoe and Frinton all registered maximum victories.

Opener Ben Shepperson’s unbeaten 124 saw Mildenhall successfully chase down Elmstead Grasshoppers’ competitive total of 231 for nine.

Jordan Elliott (46) and Mark Perrin (49) added 88 for the second wicket and although the home team slipped to 163 for six, David Sargeant’s 52 off 44 deliveries saw them recover.

Shepperson and Azeem Ghumann, who had earlier grabbed four for 52, then compiled a second-wicket stand of 148 to steer Mildenhall home, Ghumann making 58.

A fine all-round display by Trevor Moulton saw Frinton emerge victors of the Essex derby at Maldon.

Moulton’s 16-3-32-4 helped dismiss the home team for 145, before he underpinned Frinton’s reply with 12 fours in his undefeated 65 from 99 balls, adding 76 for the second wicket with Mark Jones, who made 51 at nearly a run a ball.

Woolpit overseas star Mike Jones also starred with bat and ball in his side’s 23-run success at Ipswich.

He top-scored with 78 in Woolpit’s 210 for nine and then took five for 69, including the wickets of opener Joe Rusby (64) and Dough Hondo, who made 44 batting at number nine.

Prince Saheed Akolade took seven wickets for the second time this season in Mildenhall 2nd XIs six-wicket win at home to Woodbridge & OW. The Nigerian hit the stumps five times as he conceded just 25 runs.

Cath Dalton, a member of the ECB Development Women’s XI, took three wickets on her debut for Halstead 2nd XI in their four-wicket win against Coggeshall in Division Three.

Meanwhile, Mildenhall 3rd XI are believed to become the first Two Counties side to field three ladies in the same team.

Fliss Cleverley, Kathryn Carter and Lily Reynolds, who scored 63, were in the side that defeated Kelvedon & Feering 2nd XI by 164 runs in Division Five.

West Mersea racked up 410 for four on their way to a massive 343-run victory at home to Kelvedon & Feering 3rd XI in Division Eight South. Their total was just one run shy of the Division Eight record set by Braintree in 2009.
