THE world’s No. 1 golfer, Lee Westwood, is set to open a golf school on the Essex/Suffolk border.

The Worksop-born star has chosen Stoke by Nayland Golf Club as the setting for his second golf school – he already has one running at Macdonald Portal Resort, in Cheshire.

For the Essex club it is a great coup. Managing director Susanna Rendall said: “Throughout our discussions with the Lee Westwood Golf School, we have been very impressed with the ethos of the school, their structured education programme and the opportunities the school creates for these young golfers.

“At Stoke by Nayland we work hard to invest in the development of the game and this partnership is testament to that commitment.”

The Lee Westwood School will offer a two-year programme designed to develop talented golfers aged 16 and above. It follows a structured programme that will develop and enhance golf and education, including lifestyle, psychology, fitness and more and it will result in students gaining a BTEC Extended National Diploma in Sport.

Westwood has moved up to No.1 in the world rankings, but still awaits his first Major title.

However, the popular Englishman continues to knock on the door of a Major, finishing runner-up in both The Masters and The Open in 2010. The 38-year-old turned professional in 1993 and has 35 professional wins to his credit.

The Lee Westwood Golf School is planned to open in September 2011, and is currently accepting applications.
