The former Shrewsbury man was dismissed by Jeremy Simpson with 15 minutes remaining at Hillsborough following a tackle on Owls striker Fernando Forestieri, with replays showing he won the ball.

But that was not enough to overturn the decision, with the FA announcing today that the defender will serve a three-game ban,

He will miss this Sunday’s East Anglian Derby clash with Norwich before also sitting out the visit to Hull and home clash with Brentford.

An FA statement said: “Aristote Nsiala will miss Ipswich Town’s next three games through suspension after an Independent Regulatory Commission rejected his claim of wrongful dismissal for serious foul play against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.”

Paul Hurst was asked on Wednesday if he was confident the Blues would win their appeal, with the Ipswich boss replying: “I wouldn’t say confident. I know what should happen but whether it does or not is a different matter.

“Again, I think we should find out today, I’m led to believe. I certainly hope so, it’s only right that you should know as early as possible.

“It can’t take that long to make a decision, whichever way. Hopefully we’ll find out and then you can prepare.”
