IPSWICH Town have this morning been linked with a £2.5 million move for Greek international striker Angelos Charisteas - but the club is remaining tight-lipped.
The 6ft 4ins Nuremberg striker, who is said to have long wanted to play in England, headed the goal which won his country Euro 2004 against Portugal.
Charisteas, who has scored 19 goals in 68 caps for Greece, started his professional career at Aris Salonica before moving on loan to Athinaikos and then signing for Werder Bremen in 2002.
Three years later he moved to Ajax for a season before moving on to Feyenoord and last summer Nuremberg, who paid £2.5m for his services.
The hit man, who also played for Greece in the recent Euro 2008 championship, notched 6 goals in 24 appearances for the German side last year.
Town were previously linked with Charisteas back in November 2001 when then-European scout Simon Hunt watched Aris beat Ethnikos Asteras 4-2.
Reports in Greece at the time quoted Hunt as saying: "We have to see him play two or three times more before we make a final decision."
Hunt recently rejoined the Blues as the club's new international scout and it appears the recruitment of Charisteas could be his first contribution towards Town's push to return to the Premier League.
But this morning the club would only say that they “do not comment on speculation.”
