IPSWICH Town is organising a club special tribute to Sir Bobby Robson this afternoon at 3pm

Members of the Portman Road team will line us as a guard of honour as a wreath is laid at the Sir Bobby Robson statue by club chaplain The Rev Kevan McCormack.

Meanwhile, the club has opened a Sir Bobby Robson Book of Condolence for fans. This has been placed in the Centre Spot Restaurant at Portman Road.

It comes as Town fans start to pay their tributes at the ground where he turned the side into European winners.

Floral tributes were left outside Portman Road and one fan wrapped an Ipswich scarf around the statue of the legendary manager, which stands opposite one of the stands.

One tribute in a note read: “RIP Sir Bobby, you touched the hearts and minds of many generations. One man, one legend, one Sir Bobby. May you rest in peace.”

Another fan laid a Uefa Cup winner's special edition Town shirt next to the statue and wrote on it: "RIP Sir Bobby, a true legend in every sense.''

Fan Mark Holdaway, a 43-year-old service engineer from Ipswich, tied a scarf he had owned for 30 years to the statue.

He said: “He is the reason why I became an Ipswich fan. I have been a season ticket holder all my life.

“I came to the ground as a kid and it changed my life forever. He showed us how football should be played the right way, the Ipswich way.”
