Trio star at awards night

IPSWICH Cycle Speedway club was well represented and recognised at the British Cycling Awards evening.

Three members of Ipswich Cycle Speedway Club received awards at the ceremony, held in the Birmingham Hilton Hotel.

With more than 500 people there, British Cycling President Brian Cookson praised the whole organisation and highlighted the amazing talent that is currently pushing British Cycling forward across a multitude of disciplines, including cycle speedway.

Young Ipswich star Ashley Hill had a fine season for the club last year, but had an even better individual one, winning the Wosskow Brown British Youth & Junior League under-16’s title, for which he was recognised on the night.

He also came very close to taking the British under 16 Championship, but after a fine effort at Norwich in August, he had to settle for second place on the day.

Lauren Jacobs received an award for going the season unbeaten in all four rounds of the One 2 Call Women’s League over-16’s individual championships and winning that competition.

The Ipswich stalwart was also part of the regional team that took the British Women’s League title along with fellow Ipswich riders Laura Dale and Gemma Hill, although unfortunately Gemma was unable to attend the ceremony.

It was a great experience for all involved, as well as a feather in the cap for the club, and fine inspiration for the coming campaign, where they will be looking to surpass this year’s achievements.
