Two games see a winning start to the season

WE took home our first silverware of the season at Mildenhall winning the Pinkowski Cup with a convincing 1 - 3 victory.

Our 2 - 1 defeat of Diss on Wednesday set up Saturday's encounter with our goals coming from Simon Head and James Rowe.

A real test was anticipated though it was strange to see Porky Claydon in red and not yellow. Porky and the rest of his colleagues were well shackled by our defence led by Lurch. We were without Munson, Calver, Heath, Bacon, Stace and Wignall, mostly due to injuries although, in Wignall's case, his transfer request has been granted. It was good to see Terry Rayner start but unfortunately he took a blow and limped off just before half time.

On 30 minutes Boardley struck a direct free kick in off the post but this was cancelled out five minutes later when Cranfield converted a penalty. The second half was all Sudbury with a Boardley corner being well met by David Head to put us back in the lead and this was extended by Rowe with several other chances going begging. Mark Morsley, who was away on holiday, would have been pleased with this display.

At last our supporters have an opportunity to see the first team at home on Saturday when they take on Croydon Athletic, KO 3 pm, and then they travel to Woodbridge Town on Tuesday with Billericay Town visiting us on Saturday, August 11. At both our home games there will be a collection for the Motor Neurone Association.

The damaged dugouts have been put back together by A & B Glass and the club thanks them for their prompt attention and co-operation.

Our Reserves suffered two 2 - 1 defeats at the hands of Cornard and Newmarket Reserves last week. I did not see the Cornard game but we took the lead through Burgin but then fell behind. The Newmarket game showed our more youthful team has some potential but need games to gel. Stokes equalised for us having gone behind due to a penalty. On Saturday they travel to Little Oakley, KO 3 pm, and then to Felixstowe on the 7th August, KO 7.45 pm. In the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup they have been drawn to play Hundon Reserves away on the 15th September.
