BOBBY Williamson could be named Colchester United manager today as the U's end their search for a new boss.

The Colchester United board held a second interview with Williamson last weekend, and chairman Peter Heard and directors Peter Powell and John Worsp were thrashing out final details in talks with Williamson late last night.

If everything can be agreed his appointment will be announced officially within the next 24 hours.

Williamson, 45, beat off a host of candidates to land the job and caretaker manager Geraint Williams is likely to be disappointed once again.

Glaswegian-born Williamson started his career as a boss at Kilmarnock before moving to Hibernian and last year was manager of Plymouth Argyle. He completed their 2004-05 League One promotion season to go into the Championship after taking over late in the campaign from Paul Sturrock.

Williamson was sacked by the Home Park outfit last September.

Jocky Scott took temporary charge and now Ian Holloway is installed.
