COLCHESTER United have made yet another foray into the transfer market by bringing in right-back Christian Ribiero on loan.

The 20-year-old Welsh U21 international has joined the U's on a month's loan from Championship club Bristol City and is available for tomorrow's game at Gillingham.

He is currently travelling across from the west of England to join up with the rest of the Colchester players at the hotel they are currently based at in Kent.

Ribiero - the U's fifth signing of the January transfer window so far - played seven games on loan for League One side Stockport County earlier this season.

One of those matches was at the Weston Homes Community Stadium where, despite County going down 2-0, Ribiero was an outstanding attacking outlet.

Stockport had extended their one-month loan deal for the young full-back - whose father is Portuguese - but Bristol City boss Gary Johnson opted to exercise his recall option at the end of December in order to have Ribiero as cover following a defensive injury crisis.

“We are delighted to have Christian for a month,” said Boothroyd. “He is a big talent and he'll add competition for places with our squad.”

Ribiero now will be available for nine matches in a busy four week period. One of those matches will see him return to Stockport on February 13, while the last game he will be available for is the home game against Brentford on February 23.
