Club captain, Luke Prosser, admitted that the U’s defensive injury woes made it a ‘hard’ afternoon, but the 30-year-old was making no excuses after Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to visiting Bury.
Prosser stood firm at the back, following injuries to centre-half partners Frankie Kent and Tom Eastman, and believed that a point was still there for the taking even after falling 2-0 behind.
“It was hard. Me and Frankie have been forming a good partnership, since the end of last season really, and it was disappointing to see him go off,” confessed Prosser.
“But then I have played with Easty (Eastman) a number of times before. He unfortunately had to go off as well, which is part-and-parcel of football.
“I remember it happening to us last season. We have got to adapt, (Brandon) Comley went there first and then Jacko (Ryan Jackson) did. That’s what squads are for.
“We knew that Bury would come out of the traps and press us high, and they did it well. They are a very good team. It was two sloppy goals, from our point of view, but we didn’t give up and we could have nicked a point while not playing very well.
“We gave it everything, even when we were 2-0 down, and possibly Dicko’s (Brennan Dickenson’s) shot at the end could have been on target,” added Prosser.
