COLCHESTER United have lodged another bid for Hibernian's giant defender, Rob Jones.

The U's are believed to have made an offer in excess of 200,000 for the 6ft 7ins centre-half, having had a much-publicised 100,000 bid turned down by the Scottish Premier Division club earlier in the month.

U's boss Paul Lambert wants to bolster the heart of his defence, and yesterday he missed out on one of his targets, Wycombe centre-half Mike Williamson, who signed for Watford instead.

The U's face stiff competition to sign Jones, who played for Stockport and Grimsby before his successful move north of the border to Hibs.

The trio of Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Leicester City are all interested.

Hibs also want to hold onto Jones, who is their club captain and an influential character.
