COLCHESTER United slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Essex rivals Southend in Coca-Cola League One at Layer Road today.The outcome was virtually settled in the first-half as the visitors raced into a three-goal lead.

Freddie Eastwood put Southend in front after just 10 minutes and the visitors doubled their advantage when Kevin Maher added a second in the 21st minute.

Colchester fell three behind when Che Wilson struck in the 32nd minute.
